Founded in 1948, Hugh Cotton Insurance, Inc. is an independent agency owned and managed by the Hugh Cotton family and is now in its third generation. The agency was built around agriculture, insuring one of the largest agribusiness's in the world as well as other large citrus processing facilities in the state.

As the economy, climate and opportunities in Central Florida changed, so did our business focus. We expanded our lines of coverage to include auto dealerships, electronic and industrial manufacturing, trucking and special risk. We continue to respond to the changes around us. Currently, we insure everything from retail stores to international defense contractors.

The agency is also proud to be a member of InsGroup, a by-invitation-only affiliation of Independent Insurance Agencies located in each state of the country. InsGroup is one of the largest networks of agencies in the world with combined premiums exceeding $1 billion.

Hugh M. Cotton, founder and still active, is a licensed US Coast Guard Captain and a former president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Central Florida.

Thomas Cotton, came aboard in 1983 following graduation from FSU with a degree in Insurance and Risk Management. Tom, who has earned the prestigious CIC and CPCU professional designations, is also a former president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Central Florida and a US Coast Guard captain.

Our Commercial Lines Manager is Irma Platt and she has been with the agency for more than 40 years. Grace Ross, our Personal Lines Manager, has been with the agency for over 20 years and Margaret Bastin, our Marine Department Manager, has been with the agency for 10 years. All insurance-related employees are fully licensed insurance agents, many of whom hold the CPCU, CIC, or CISR professional designations. In addition to Hugh and Tom, our staff includes another former president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Central Florida.
